HR Lead in New York City - M&A

Role overview

Our client is looking for a credible and highly motivated HR professional with excellent employee relations experience to lead the HR team of 3 Generalists, consisting currently of two distinct teams across multiple jurisdictions with a strategic growth plans in North America.

Key Responsiblities

Own the delivery and effectiveness for the team across at least two distinctive team for all HR processes and responsibilities across all employee life-cycle activities such as benefits administration, goal and performance management, inclusion, manager coaching, employee relations, compliance and policy management and immigration.

  • Lead the post M&A HR integration of two businesses (c. 200 employees)
  • Guide the work and growth of the HR team, currently HR generalists based in London and New York
  • Develop and manage thoughtful HR policies and practices that fairly balance the interests of all team members and are consistent with the culture of the company
  • Provide strategic and tactical HR advice to the  HR SteerCo whilst demonstrating commercial-focused critical thinking
  • Coach and train managers on all employee leadership matters & HR processes
  • Ensure compliance with applicable labor and employment laws and regulations (specifically NYC, Massachusetts, California and Colorado) 
  • Proactively and thoughtfully address workplace and employee relations issues on an individual and systemic basis
  • Collaborate with the Group HR team aligned to their flat hierarchy
  • Contribute as an HR professional to an equitable and inclusive culture in all of their offices

The successful candidate will have the ability to build a thorough understanding of the  HR strategy, employees, policies and processes. The HR Lead will report to the Global HR Director and work alongside key other stakeholders, who have responsibilities aligned to managing the business’s operations.

Our client is a rapidly growing company, with a rapidly growing legal estate. The role therefore provides the opportunity for growth, as the business continues to expand in terms of size, services and geographies.

The jobholder will be aligned to their Global business operations team and will receive mentoring from a senior member of the business operations team.


Key Skills

  • Several years of proven experience in a similar level role within Management Consultancy, Wealth or Asset Management.
  • Exemplary academic background
  • Thorough understanding and experience of post M&A HR integration
  • Ability in navigating and managing distinctive teams and policies within a division whilst achieving the appropriate level of alignment
  • Excellent knowledge of US labor law and benefits system, focussing mostly on New York, Massachusetts, California and Colorado states is a must, knowledge of UK employment law is preferred
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple senior external and internal relationships
  • First-class communication, presentation and problem-solving skills and displaying gravitas by communicating with confidence, influence and authority
  • Focus on team achievement, not just individual goals
  • Comfortable in a fast moving corporate environment
  • Good understanding of research methods and data analysis techniques
  • Superb interpersonal skills, with ability to influence and lead
  • Ability to mentor and coach team members
  • Business language fluency in English both verbally and in writing
  • Business user of MS tools including Power Point and Excel


New York State and work remotely/from home, as required. A proportion of the work should not require travel to their offices but occasionally international travel might be required
